CNY Baskets

Monday, February 9, 2009

I truly appreciate Akash's teachers enthusiasm..Every festival has a new craft item ready which can be taken home..children enjoy making it and teachers enjoy working with them. Here comes two varieties of Chinese New Year (CNY) baskets in which they gave orange and few other goodies for children to take away. They are very easy to make take a look..

1.From Tissue Paper Box :
They have cut the Tissue paper box into two. The front side has the colored picture (colored by children) of OX which is the animal of the year. The other sides of the box is decorated with colored paper and glitter!

The next type of baskets are from used up pepsi/coke/ 1.5 litre bottles. Just stare at it to know the piece of art created by children!
They have cut of upper 1/4 th portion f the bottle. The bottom 3/4 th part is again well used to create a design..like they have cut them into strips (half of 3/4th part) and folded them on their back to give that exterior design. One of the strip is folded in such a way that it became a handle to hold the basket. voila! the basket to hold orange and goodies is ready...
They all go to Shama's Kid's Freindly Art event. Happy hosting Shama..

Charm

Saturday, January 24, 2009

This is Akash's contribution to Shama's Kid's Friendly Craft Event. Shama is trying to keep her 2yr occupied. I am sure it is challenge to all mom's to keep their younger ones occupied. Akash merrily brought back this paper charm from his craft class for this event.

The picture explains itself so I am not writing down the procedure to make this simple charm.

Use Old Newspaper .....

Friday, September 19, 2008

We were trying to use old news paper and here is what we came up with............

Take a 2"wide and 10cm long paper strip.
Start from one of the edge and roll it like a cigar. Roll about 2cm paper this way.
You have cigar and a tail end of the paper. press the upper end of the paper from where paper tail starts. You have lower end free to hold in your hands.
start folding the paper backwards and at the same time circumambulating the cigar strip till you finish using 95% of the paper strip. The tail end is just wound around the bottom part of the cigar where you are holding and firmly secured with a tape.
Rose is ready. You can see the Rose stuck to the multipurpose holder in the below picture which gives you a better look from side.

Akash has just stuck news paper around a used up biscuit box. He enjoyed making it and sticking a rose to it :)

The doll above is made of news paper yarn. You can see the method of making newspaper yarn/thread here
The yarn is glued in a circular form on a thick cardborad discs. The thick card board was from cornflakes box. Akash has cut them into circles. I glued the paper thread on the discs. We finished it by decorating with wool which I already had at home.
