Use Old Newspaper .....

Friday, September 19, 2008

We were trying to use old news paper and here is what we came up with............

Take a 2"wide and 10cm long paper strip.
Start from one of the edge and roll it like a cigar. Roll about 2cm paper this way.
You have cigar and a tail end of the paper. press the upper end of the paper from where paper tail starts. You have lower end free to hold in your hands.
start folding the paper backwards and at the same time circumambulating the cigar strip till you finish using 95% of the paper strip. The tail end is just wound around the bottom part of the cigar where you are holding and firmly secured with a tape.
Rose is ready. You can see the Rose stuck to the multipurpose holder in the below picture which gives you a better look from side.

Akash has just stuck news paper around a used up biscuit box. He enjoyed making it and sticking a rose to it :)

The doll above is made of news paper yarn. You can see the method of making newspaper yarn/thread here
The yarn is glued in a circular form on a thick cardborad discs. The thick card board was from cornflakes box. Akash has cut them into circles. I glued the paper thread on the discs. We finished it by decorating with wool which I already had at home.

Lantern and Lantern Festival

Sunday, September 14, 2008

The Mid-Autumn Festival, also known as the Moon Festival, is a popular East Asian tradition of Chinese origin, dating back over 3,000 years to moon worship in China's Shang Dynasty that spread to neighbouring cultures like Japan. It was first called Mid-Autumn festival in the Zhou Dynasty. In Malaysia and Singapore, it is also referred to as the Lantern Festival or Mooncake Festival. The Chinese Lantern Festival is held on the 15 day of the first lunar month.

China Town is decked up with beautiful lanterns and lamps. Moon Cakes are sold everywhere. Today is lantern festival too along with Ananthapadmanabha swamy vrata :D so posting both together. Lantern was made of used bisleri bottle. Akash's childcare teachers are very creative. They helped each child of the center to make one lantern each. It was a DIY project. Take a close look and you can create one at home yourself.

This lantern goes to Vani's CAN ART EVENT
